Spider-Man and Doctor Doom: every fight in the comics
Doom tried to recruit him in his first year, beat him badly in 1991, and in 2015 ruled what was left of reality as a god. Here is their whole history, and the odds.
Doctor Doom is the Fantastic Four's enemy first, but Spider-Man met him within a year of his own debut, and they have crossed paths on and off ever since. With Robert Downey Jr. playing Doom in Avengers: Doomsday this December, here is what actually happens when the two of them fight, and how this site rates it.
Doctor Doom, most of the time. In this site's ratings, the classic comics Spider-Man wins 18% of their one-on-one fights. Against God Emperor Doom, the version that ruled Battleworld, he wins 1%. In the comics, their first fight ended with Doom fleeing, and their best-known later fight ended with Spider-Man beaten.
Their first fight: Amazing Spider-Man #5 (1963)
Doom's first fight outside the pages of Fantastic Four was against Spider-Man. He tried to recruit the young hero against the Fantastic Four, and when Spider-Man refused, Doom set out to capture him, and grabbed Flash Thompson by mistake, because Flash was wearing a Spider-Man costume. The real Spider-Man came to the rescue and fought Doom until Doom fled as the Fantastic Four arrived. Call it a draw, with a teenager holding his own against one of Marvel's greatest villains.

The beating: Amazing Spider-Man #350 (1991)
Nearly three decades later, Spider-Man and Doom clashed over a stolen jewel. Doom beat him badly, then gave him a day to get the jewel back. It is the fight most often cited when fans argue that Spider-Man is out of his league against Doom, and it is one reason this site rates Doom a clear favorite.
Secret Wars (2015): Doom as a god
The strongest Doom there has ever been is God Emperor Doom. In Secret Wars (2015), when the multiverse ended, Doom took the power of the Beyonders and built Battleworld out of the wreckage, then ruled it for years as its god. On this site, God Emperor Doom is close to unbeatable for any Spider-Man: see God Emperor Doom. He loses that power only at the very end, after admitting to Reed Richards that Reed would have used it better.
Challenges of Doom (2026)
Doom and Spider-Man met again in 2026 in Challenges of Doom: Spider-Man #1, a one-shot by Al Ewing and David Messina from the Challenges of Doom series.
Odds for every Spider-Man
| Spider-Man | vs. Doctor Doom | vs. God Emperor Doom |
|---|---|---|
| Peter Parker (classic Spider-Man) | 18% | 1% |
| Cosmic Spider-Man | 52% | 5% |
| Superior Spider-Man (Otto Octavius) | 22% | 1% |
| Peter Parker in the Iron Spider armor | 18% | 1% |
| Miles Morales | 18% | 1% |
| Tom Holland's Spider-Man | 17% | 1% |
| Peter Parker (Ultimate Spider-Man 2024, Earth-6160) | 16% | 1% |
Each figure is that Spider-Man's chance of winning a one-on-one fight under this site's rules: both at their peak, no preparation and no help. Doom without preparation is still a genius in armor that can survive almost anything Spider-Man can throw, and he knows sorcery. Spider-Man's best hopes are his speed, his spider-sense and webbing that can foul armor joints.
Is Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday?
Not as far as Marvel has announced. Tom Holland is not on the announced cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18, 2026, with Robert Downey Jr. as Doom. The view from Doom's side
Our sister site, The Iron Mask Files, rates the same fight from Doom's side, with the same fight rules: Doctor Doom vs. Spider-Man. It also rates every version of Doom against the Fantastic Four, the Avengers and the Avengers: Doomsday cast.
