Power rankings
Every Spider-Man movie villain, ranked by power
Twenty-four years of Spider-Man films have put more than a dozen of his comics enemies on screen. Here they are, ranked from the fight he is least likely to win to the one he wins most easily.
How this ranking works
Every villain below has appeared in a film with Spider-Man in the title, live action or animated. They are ranked by how often the classic comics Spider-Man, Peter Parker at his peak, beats the comics version of that villain under this site's fight rules. That keeps the comparison fair, because the films' versions vary a lot in power from one series to the next.
Villains from Sony's films without Spider-Man, such as Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Kraven the Hunter, are covered at the end.
The ranking
Venom
Stronger than Spidey, invisible to his spider-sense, and the symbiote knows his moves because it once was his costume. It also makes its own webbing and can camouflage itself.
Doctor Octopus
Four mind-controlled metal tentacles with reach, strength and speed, each able to act on its own, and one of the greatest scientific minds on Earth.
Electro
Lightning bolts, electrified touch, absorption of more power from any grid, and in his strongest eras, enough voltage to black out a city.
Sandman
A body of living sand that shrugs off punches, hardens into maces and swallows opponents whole. Spidey's punches pass right through.
The Spot
Portals anywhere he places a spot, so his fists can come from any direction. Modern versions of the Spot are far more dangerous.
Green Goblin
Goblin Formula strength and healing, a glider, pumpkin bombs, razor bats, a genius-level mind, and the madness to use everything he knows about Peter's life.
Lizard
Reptilian strength, claws, a whip-like tail, regeneration and feral rage. Some versions can control reptiles.
Rhino
Huge strength, an armored suit bonded to his skin, and a charge that flattens trucks. One hit hurts.
Scorpion
Super-strength from a scorpion-gene treatment, an armored suit, and a long tail with a stinger and blaster.
Mysterio
Stage illusions, hallucinogenic gas, holograms, robots and special-effects traps built by a Hollywood effects master.
Kingpin
Around 450 pounds that is mostly muscle, sumo and martial arts mastery, a crushing bear hug, a weapon-loaded cane, and the patience of a crime lord.
Tombstone
Superhuman strength and toughness after a chemical accident, filed teeth, and a gangster's ruthlessness.
Tarantula
A revolutionary-turned-mercenary with poisoned boot spikes and martial arts.
Vulture
A flight harness that also boosts his strength, aerial speed, and an old man's cunning.
Shocker
Vibro-shock gauntlets that fire air-pressure blasts and a padded suit that absorbs vibrations.
Boomerang
Trick boomerangs (explosive, gas, razor) and jet boots.
Prowler
Claws, gas pellets and climbing gear. Hobie Brown is a reformed ally more often than an enemy.
The villains of Sony's other films
Sony's Spider-Man Universe put several more of his enemies on screen without him: Carnage (Woody Harrelson, 2021), whom classic Spider-Man beats 30% of the time; Morbius (Jared Leto, 2022), 70%; and, in Kraven the Hunter (2024), Kraven the Hunter (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), 55%, and the Chameleon (Fred Hechinger), 90%.
Team them up
Spider-Man rarely faces his film villains one at a time anymore. Try No Way Home's five villains, or Brand New Day's street gang, in the team calculator, and see the films in order in our movie guide.
