The verdict: Spider-Man has the edge

Fight rules: both fighters at their peak, no preparation, no allies, only their own powers and personal gear. A win is a knockout, a restraint they can't escape, or a forced surrender. The percentages are fan estimates, not official information.

Spider-Man's edge

Faster, and spider-sense warns of the tail. Gargan's rage makes him reckless.

Scorpion's edge

Super-strength from a scorpion-gene treatment, an armored suit, and a long tail with a stinger and blaster.

Scorpion's power set

Who is Scorpion?

Mac Gargan was a private investigator hired by J. Jonah Jameson to find out how Peter Parker got his photos of Spider-Man. Jameson then paid for an experiment that turned Gargan into the Scorpion, giving him great strength and a mechanical tail, and drove him mad with hatred for Spider-Man and for Jameson himself. He debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #19 (1964), and years later he bonded with the Venom symbiote. As Venom, he posed as Spider-Man on Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers.
